Mercuri Magazine is a youth-led publication dedicated to exposing bias and injustice in the legal system. Each issue unpacks the hidden forces shaping courtroom outcomes and challenges what it means to be “credible” in the eyes of the law.
Open Roles
Executive Positions:
secretary: They manage internal communication, meeting agendas, deadlines, and archives. They take notes, track task progress, and support team coordination. (3 hours per week)
director of reasearch: They research and lead the research team to gather accurate, in-depth information that supports the magazine’s stories, themes, and case studies. They verify facts, dig into legal history and current events, and ensure every piece is grounded in truth and context. (2-3 hours per week)
social media manager: They manage the social media to promote each issue and increase contributors. They are able to find creative ways to not only engage others, but also share complex topics with accessible visuals and captions. (1-2 hours per week)
editor-in-chief: They oversee and review all pieces to make sure they align with Mercuri's mission. They coordinate with every department, make final content decisions, and guide the overall tone, direction, and messaging of each issue. As the lead voice of the magazine, they are responsible for maintaining editorial integrity. (2-3 hours per week)
director of outreach: This role involves contacting potential collaborators, educators, or youth activists. They organize interviews or guest pieces and make sure Mercuri remains a platform by and for diverse voices and lived experiences. (2 hours per week)
creative web director: This role involves creating and managing our website alongside our input. They are responsible for uploading issues, maintaining layout and design, and ensuring the site reflects our mission and themes. Some experience with Framer, Wix, or similar platforms preferred. (2-3 hours per week)
Staff Positions:
writer: Writers create original content for the magazine, including articles, essays, interviews, and opinion pieces.
editor: Editors review and revise drafts for clarity, grammar, and style. They help strengthen the writing while making sure each piece stays true to Mercuri’s purpose.
researcher: Researchers gather accurate information, data, and background for stories. They support writers and editors by verifying facts and helping build strong, well-informed pieces.
